MOUNTAIN VIEW – A former Mountain View elementary school teacher was arrested Monday on suspicion of inappropriately touching a student several years ago, police said.
Detectives launched an investigation in October after the student came forward and shared the allegations, the Mountain View Police Department said in a news release.
The student said the teacher – Bryan Rios, 42, of Santa Clara – inappropriately touched them during class when they attended Theuerkauf Elementary, police said.
Rios was arrested without incident Monday in Santa Clara, police said.
Rios has had other brushes with the law. In 2017, he was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teacher at the school, but the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute Rios, citing “insufficient evidence,” this news organization previously reported.
The teacher sued the Mountain View Whisman School District in September 2019, alleging it failed to prevent Rios from harassing, assaulting and eventually raping her.
Four months earlier, a different teacher sued the district for its handling of Rios. In that lawsuit, Crysti Flowers-Haywood said the district did not protect her from an abusive work environment or take action corrective actions after she complained about Rios.
Rios left his position as a first-grade teacher at the end of the 2017-18 school year.
Detectives are concerned Rios may have victimized others, police said. Anyone who was victimized or knows a victim can contact Detective Lauren Riffel at [email protected].
