On Thursday, Kochie joined Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies on The Morning Show, speaking about what viewers can expect from the new series.

“A key feature of each episode is Kochie’s budget challenge, where viewers challenge me to make savings out of their household bills,” Kochie said.

“So they send in all the household bills and compare the market, go through them all, and we find out how much we can save you.”

Kochie said last season he managed to save a woman $11,000 per year, saying she had a terrible mortgage that had a “seven” in front of it, meaning he could find a much better deal.

“This year, the families have been a lot savvier, and a few of them have tried to take me on because they think they’re savvy with their bills and they go, all right, coach, you come in. I bet you can’t find anything.

“We only got to $700, but still, it’s a big saving (for the average family).”

He said big savings could be found in insurance policies and energy bills.

“You never renew an insurance policy automatically every year, you always go and check. Energy bills, too. You might get on a great plan with great incentives and discounts.

“Usually they only last a year, and then you go back to the default rate or something else, in your car insurance and home and contents insurance, you’ll get your bill, and they’ll say, this is the premium.”

Kochie cautioned it was always worth calling companies or making inquiries online about cheaper deals.

The beloved presenter then turned his attention to his mother, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Kochie shared a number of photos from the event.

“She was fantastic — the whole family together,” Kochie said.

“I said to her, ‘mum, what’s something that you’ve never done or wanted to do?’ And she said, ‘I’ve never danced on a table during a party’. So she did, surrounded by grandchildren and great-grandchildren and children.

“There were 48 of us at this party. That was the thing, we all had to dress up as a different era. She’s just the real matriarch of the family. It was great.”

Season two of Your Money, Your Life will premiere on 7 and 7plus at 2pm, Thursday September 26.
