Exclusive: Ola to showcase its electric superbike Diamondhead at Indian MotoGP

While MotoE might not be making an appearance at the first-ever Indian GP, the event will not be devoid of electric two-wheeler presence. Ola Electric will be showcasing their electric superbike concept, Diamondhead at MotoGP, sources close to the development told us. For the uninitiated, Diamondhead is one of the four concept electric two-wheelers that Ola showcased at its event on August 15, 2023.

The Diamondhead sports a very futuristic and minimalistic design, one that you would see in sci-fi movies. At the front, it has a large, ‘diamond-shaped’ panel that houses a light strip while the actual headlamp unit is situated underneath the beak. The shape of the panel makes it look like a semi-faired motorcycle. It sports disc brakes at both ends and the rear wheel has been covered off for better aerodynamic efficiency. Even the front suspension is at a very unconventional angle, sitting almost parallel to the ground.

While details about the powertrain are scarce, it is expected that the Diamondhead will be much more powerful than the Ultraviolette F77, the most sporty electric motorcycle that one can get in the Indian market. Being more powerful, it would also be a lot more expensive and become the flagship product in the company’s lineup.
When we first saw the Diamondhead at Ola’s event on August 15, it was accompanied by three other concept vehicles – Cruiser, Adventure and Roadster. As the name suggests the three motorcycles are made to fit in their respective segments. It is possible that the Diamondhead will once again be showcased with fellow models at the Indian GP. Pre-reservations for these motorcycles are already open and it is expected that the launch will happen by the end of 2024.

MotoGP is coming to India for the first time and will be held at the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) from September 22 to 24, 2023. BIC previously played host to Formula 1 for three years in a row but had to undergo homologation to host MotoGP. Preparations for the event are already underway and team equipment has already started reaching the track, including the safety car and bike.
