Collingwood youngster Jakob Ryan has had his AFL debut cut short after a concussion scare against Brisbane on Friday night.
The 18-year-old was involved in a two-on-two contest deep inside the Magpies’ defensive 50 when he was cleaned up inadvertently by Cam Rayner, who was flying for a mark.
Ryan went straight down and lay flat on the ground for an extended moment.

He eventually got up, but did so disorientated, and was immediately ushered off the ground by Collingwood trainers.
The debutant’s family had hearts in their mouths as they watched on from the crowd.
Ryan entered the AFL’s concussion protocols and was soon subbed out of the game, with Mason Cox replacing him.

It was injury carnage at Marvel Stadium with Brisbane’s Callum Ah Chee going down just minutes later.
Ah Chee flew high for a mark and came down with a thud on his coccyx bone.
The Lions utility was clearly affected by the fall but tried to battle through.
He came to the bench before attempting to play on for about four minutes before surrendering to the bench and getting subbed out, replaced by Jarryd Lyons.
Brisbane forward Lincoln McCarthy was also taken from the field in the third quarter, seen later on the bench with ice around his calf.
Ryan’s teammate Nathan Murphy, whose importance to the team had been intensified since fellow key defender Darcy Moore’s injury last week, soon joined the list of causalities after getting tunneled in a marking contest.
Murphy had his “legs taken out from underneath him”, as described by James Brayshaw, and was sprawled on the ground in pain.
“Unfortunately a few injury concerns floating around the benches in the third term,” Channel 7 boundary rider Abbey Holmes said at three quarter time.
“I’ll start with Callum Ah Chee: subbed out early in the third. Went on for four and a half minutes but couldn’t get the back going. Jarryd Lyons came into the game for him.
“Lincoln McCarthy — the Lions are a man down in this final term. He has ice on the left calf. He has been getting work on it throughout the night but he has pulled it and he won’t take any further place in tonight’s action.”
Holmes said Murphy had initially tried to return to the field for the last quarter.
“Nathan Murphy was involved in the tunnelling incident with Cam Rayner. He spent time in the rooms but he is good to go in this final term,” she said.
But the defender was eventually pulled from the ground and later seen visibly upset on the sidelines.
Speaking to Holmes after the game, former Magpies captain Scott Pendlebury said Ryan would bounce back.
“I only saw him at half-time. It is not how you dream your first game would go, but he works incredibly hard and I’m sure he would be rapt with the opportunity to play tonight,” he said.
Seven’s chief footy reporter Tom Browne wrapped up all the injury news in the aftermath.
“Murphy was assessed for concussion at one stage and went down to the rooms, came back up and played on and then suggested at one point he couldn’t walk properly,” Browne said.
“He had had a syndesmosis issue a couple of weeks ago that was meant to keep him out two or three weeks but only cost him two or three days. Hopefully it is upside again. He will have scans in the morning. I’m waiting to hear if it is a concussion issue, back issue or what it is.
“McCarthy has the calf injury. That’s obviously a concern as far as Lincoln McCarthy is concerned and Callum Ah Chee had the nasty back injury from earlier in the night. So you would think that he would miss some time.
“Jamie Elliott copped a late knock as well. It will be interesting to see if he has any concussion implications. He played on. The doctors assessed the vision. For Collingwood, they would hate to his Elliott next week.”
