FC Barcelona Wants Luis Enrique In 2025

FC Barcelona is keeping an eye on Luis Enrique’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain and would like him to possibly take over as its head coach if he doesn’t renew his contract in 2025 according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

A Barca legend as a player and a manager, Luis Enrique was the architect of Barca’s last triumph in the Champions League and most recent downfall in the elite continental tournament.

Overseeing the Catalans’ second treble in 2014/2015, which took in a Berlin UCL final win over Juventus, he also KO’d his former club on the continent in this season’s quarterfinals.

Barca went into a second leg tie at the Montjuic Stadium leading 3-2 on aggregate after a heroic win in the Parc des Princes.

And despite going as much as 4-2 up overall at home, a red card for Ronald Araujo then resulted in a 4-1 demolishing on the night which meant PSG passed through the semifinals with a 6-4 triumph.

Despite this failure and losing a pretty-much league deciding installment of El Clasico to Real Madrid in the same week, Luis Enrique’s ex-teammate and skipper Xavi Hernandez was allowed to go back on his original decision to step down on June 30 and instead see out his contract until said date in 2025.

That is also when Luis Enrique becomes a free man as things stand, and SPORT explains that he is Sporting Director Deco’s preferred choice to take over the reins at the newly-renovated Camp Nou.

In a Twitch session during the build up to the UCL clash between PSG and Barca, Luis Enrique confirmed that he would be willing to return “home” one day.

“I’ve always said I’d like to, but the reality is that it’s very challenging to make it happen. They might need a coach now,” Luis Enrique said, at a time when it appeared as though Xavi would step aside.

“But I have a rule to honor my contracts and the trust people have in me. I won’t be the one to break that contract. It’s not my style, and I never will,” he vowed.

Furthermore, PSG is reportedly keen on offering its tactician a renewal, which would end Barca’s interest for now if he accepted.
