Florida business owners bracing for Milton

(NewsNation) — Kevin and Max Doyle, co-owners of the Celtic Ray Public House, are bracing for Milton, the second hurricane set to hit the establishment in recent weeks.

The Celtic Ray, located in Punta Gorda, Florida, was impacted by Helene and is now preparing for more damage.

“We just got fully fixed and repaired, ready to go almost fully and we have to sandbag it all up again,” Kevin told “Morning in America.”

Milton was downgraded to a Category 4 storm on Tuesday but is still expected to be the worst hurricane to hit Tampa Bay in over 100 years.

Florida is preparing for the largest evacuation since Hurricane Irma in 2017 when 7 million people were told to evacuate.

The Doyles have 150 sandbags inside the pub to limit damage to the downtown Punta Gorda establishment. Their primary concern lies with water damage.

“We’re so used to storms, we’re kind of used to this. But this one is the first one I’m actually kind of worried about, because it’s going to be water and wind,” Max said of Milton.

Max plans to hunker down at his home while Kevin heads to Miami to avoid Milton’s worst.

“I got my paddle board in the garage ready to go. I’m in Zone C, so when it’s over, I’m going to strap the paddle board to my to my forerunner, and drive down and hopefully get to the pub and see how bad it is, and hopefully it’s still there,” Max added.
