The patent application describes a system that would use a single charging cable with multiple connectors. The connectors would be compatible with a variety of electric vehicles.
Earlier, we’ve seen the EV-as-a-generator concept in which an EV can be used as a power source, even capable of serving as a source for house electricity. However, this concept is a novel technology. Though, it is not known how many EVs can be simultaneously charged using the system, a diagram from the patent application shows as many as three cars connected to the system.

The development of new charging technologies like Ford’s multi-EV charging solution is a positive sign for the future of electric vehicles, which currently has the lack of charging infrastructure as a major roadblock.
This technology, if it makes it to the market will help fasten the EV adoption. Additionally, this particular technology will be beneficial for fleet owners as it will allow them to charge their EVs using a single plug rather than installing multiple charging stations in several locations.
As the number of electric vehicles on the road grows, the need for more charging infrastructure will become increasingly important. These new technologies could help to make charging electric vehicles more convenient and accessible.
