Gap is drawing the curtains on its Spanish storefronts. The American fashion house revealed this decision through its social media platforms tailored to the Spanish market and its dedicated e-commerce platform, which has also ceased operations.

“The Gap, Gap Outlet and Gap.es stores are now closed. We thank our customers for their loyalty over the years,” the brand explained on February 16 in an Instagram post, accompanied by an image captioned “goodbye, for now.”

The company’s website echoes this message and provides customers with a contact telephone number and email until March 18, 2024. “As we close our logistics center, it is imperative that returns are received by March 20, 2024 in order to process them,” it added.

Beyond this service information, Gap.es indicated that products from the label can still be acquired through multi-brand retailers and online marketplaces. The website currently does not specify if Gap will remain available at El Corte Inglés department stores, where it started operations in 2015 and, as of 2020, boasted 46 locations.

Gap is closing its Spanish outlets more than three years after venturing into the retail landscape alongside its franchised partner, Grup Galceran. It was in late 2020 when the brand unveiled its flagship store, situated on Arcs Street in Barcelona, spanning over 1000 square meters (partly shared with Levi’s, another label managed by Grup Galceran).

In collaboration with its franchised partner for the country and in alignment with an expansion plan for Spain and Portugal, the brand inaugurated additional stores in cities like Girona and ventured into the outlet segment with a presence in La Roca Village.

The Gap group encompasses not only the eponymous label but also brands such as Old Navy, Banana Republic, Athleta, Janie & Jack, Intermix, and Hill City in its portfolio.
