It’s been four years of work and could gain him national recognition.
But Queensland boy Jayce Bowers is set to give it all away — for a good cause.
Jayce, 12, will compete in Saturday’s Mulletfest Nationals to crown who has the best mullet in Australia for 2023.

With his eye-catching long, red mullet, the boy and his family have travelled from their home in Gladstone to the event in Kurri Kurri, NSW, to compete after he won his age group in the Rockhampton Mulletfest.
While he’s “pretty excited” to compete and confident of taking out the national award, he’s more looking forward to what’s coming after.
Jayce will chop off his eye-catching locks and donate them to charity Kids With Cancer, to become a wig for a child who has lost their hair during chemotherapy.
“It’s a pain in the summer so I’m kind of looking forward to it,” he told 7NEWS.com.au.
Jayce’s mum Sam Bowers said he and his cousins started growing their hair out about four years ago.
“He’s always had the short, back and sides right up until the mullet business started,” she said.
Bowers revealed Jayce was “disheartened” when he didn’t win the Rockhampton Mulletfest the previous year.
“He found out it was more about his stage presence, that he needed to work on because he’s quite a shy child,” she said.
“He went and worked on it and came back this year and took his heat out.
“And now the big show.”
