Halle Berry Held a “Bad Wigs Only” Screening of Her New Movie—Watch the Video

Halle Berry isn’t afraid to poke fun at herself—and some of her onscreen wigs. The Oscar winner just hosted a special screening of her new horror movie Never Let Go for her biggest fans, and the only rule was that they needed to come wearing a wig.

Berry shared a glimpse of one such screening in a video posted to Instagram and on X, formerly known as Twitter. “My fans SHOWED UP and SHOWED OUT! You guys have been jokingly ‘dragging’ me for years about these wigs so we thought we’d have a little fun by hosting a few Wig Screenings for Never Let Go,” she wrote. The wig in question is a curly style Berry wore in 2013’s The Call, which she brought out of retirement for the event.

As noted by Entertainment Weekly, the screening invite for the Sept. 17 event requested that fans show up in their most “distressed” wigs. “Halle Berry brings us another movie with kids she’s trying to keep alive and wigs she’s distressing to death in Never Let Go,” it read. And fans certainly showed up, rocking bobs, blonde pixies, long red hair, and more. Some even wore faithful recreations of wigs worn by Berry in other films, like Kidnap’s bob with bangs. For those who didn’t have a wig on hand, Berry came prepared with a few extras and tossing them out into the crowd—including a silvery platinum reminiscent of her hair from X-Men. “You are really making your fans [sic] dreams come true,” wrote an Instagram follower.

The star also shared some of the history behind the aforementioned The Call wig, which has been the subject of many memes and jokes in the 10-plus years since she wore it onscreen. According to Berry, the hairstyle was inspired by a woman at the 911 call center where she researched her role.

“This was so much fun and the wigs were hilarious,” Berry wrote of the event. “I appreciate all the love!” It sounds like the actor may be planning more wig-centric screenings during the Never Let Go roll-out, so her The Call wig may continue its reign for a few more weeks!
