Harry Redknapp could win Cheltenham Fesitval race with horse named after West Ham fan

A vocal West Ham fan might be set for a hilarious surprise at the Cheltenham Festival.

And its name, Shakem Up’Arry, has a rather amusing origin story.

“I used to have a guy stand behind me at West Ham when I was manager,” Redknapp explained.

“For 90 minutes, he’d shout right behind my dugout, ‘shake ’em up, ‘Arry, shake ’em up, ‘Arry’.

“I used to come home on Saturday night after the game and all I could hear was this guy’s voice, ‘shake ’em up ‘Arry’.

“So I thought, when I get a horse, I’ve got to call it Shakem Up’Arry.”

Despite the name, Shakem Up’Arry is no joke, having already won close to £140,000 in prize money.

On New Year’s Day, the horse pocketed a decent £57,000 with victory in a Grade 3 chase at Cheltenham.

He’s also 16/1 for the Ultima, the same event that Corach Rambler used as a stepping stone to the Grand National last year.

And the horse has been tipped as an outside bet in the Aintree showpiece by legendary jockey Richard Johnson.

Talking up the horse’s chances, Johnson said: “I really like Ben Pauling’s horse Shakem Up’Arry.

Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp admits he loves current Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou and reacts to the Australian’s manager of the year award win

“He ran in the Coral Gold Cup, ran well at Aintree last year finishing fourth in the three-mile handicap.

“It’s whether 4 miles 2 furlongs is maybe a stretch too far… but if Ben can keep the horses in the form they’re in at the moment then who knows.

“For me you are looking for a yard in form.”

Shakem Up’Arry is 50/1 to win the Grand National with talkSPORT Bet, a number which could well shorten with success at the Ultima
