Heart-stopping moment woman armed with large knife is tackled on NSW motorway

A woman has been arrested after she allegedly threatened drivers on a NSW highway while armed with a large knife.

The 52-year-old woman was standing in the middle of the M1 Mwy at Koorainghat about 4pm on Tuesday, police said.

The woman was blocking traffic, and allegedly threatening other drivers with the knife when police arrived.

Multiple lanes were blocked on the motorway as police attempted to negotiate with the woman.

However, she allegedly then turned the knife towards the officers and threatened police.

A Taser was used by police in the arrest, and the woman was disarmed.

Incredible footage of the incident filmed by a nearby truck driver revealed the moment multiple police tackled the woman and removed her large knife.

The 52-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Taree Police Station, where she was charged with attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm (personal), common assault, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and use knife in public place – cause person to fear for safety.

She was refused bail to appear before Taree Local Court on Wednesday.
