Hermès is on the move in Atlanta.
The French luxury house has relocated its boutique in the city from the Shops of Buckhead to the new luxury wing of Phipps Plaza in a space that is nearly double in size.
The store is on the ground floor of the center and is Hermès’ 41st in the U.S.
The design of the store, which is segmented into 16 departments, or métiers, features urban murals and art intended to reference Atlanta’s creative spirit, Hermès said.
The facade features terracotta bricks in shades that range from dark brown to almond, arranged in a pixelated gradient inspired by Georgia’s red canyons. The bay windows are covered by sheer patterned fabric that helps brighten the space.
At the main entrance, the store features the brand’s signature Faubourg mosaic in beige, blue and green ombre, along with Grecques lighting that showcases the silk products and fashion jewelry.
On the left is homeware, leather goods and equestrian collections. On the right are the perfume and beauty products highlighted by red terrazzo with a square opening that leads to the shoe department with its green and natural clay colored circular rug. This area is bordered with women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, and a jewelry and watches salon.
The store was designed by the Parisian architecture agency RDAI which ensured a natural flow between the rooms, each of which has a distinct color palette. The space includes artwork and photographs from the Émile Hermès collection and the Hermès Collection of Contemporary Photographs.
The company has also collaborated with French artist Lena Hilton on a series of bold abstract paintings that enliven each room. There are also works from Italian artist Gianpaolo Pagni’s Hippomobile, which reimagines an elongated multicolored horse, and Greek artist Elias Kafouros’ Chevaloscope, a hand-painted composition of retro neon signs that form a horse’s mane.
The store opened with cocktails and an afterparty for its Atlanta customers Wednesday night and will be available for private appointments for two days before opening to the public on Saturday.
