Highway 13 temporarily closed by Oakland brush fire

LATEST Nov. 13, 5:25 p.m. The brush fire along Highway 13 is contained and under control as of 5 p.m., the Oakland Fire Department said in a social media update. Around 50 firefighters from OFD helped control the fire, which didn’t reach any neighborhoods or cause any injuries, the department said. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Around 5:30 p.m., all lanes of the highway reopened.

Nov. 13, 4 p.m. Some of Highway 13 in Oakland is closed as four vegetation fires burn near the Holy Names University campus above the highway, officials said.

The fires are located between Redwood Road and Joaquin Miller Road, the Oakland Fire Department said in a social media update around 3:15 p.m.

All lanes of northbound Highway 13 are closed from the westbound Interstate 580 to the Joaquin Miller Road exit, Adib Zeid, a spokesperson for California Highway Patrol’s Oakland office, told SFGATE. 

Traffic from Highway 13 is being redirected to the Carson Street exit just south of Redwood Road, according to a 511 SFBay alert.

The blaze is a three-alarm fire and no structures were impacted as of 3:15 p.m., the OFD said.
