Eicher Motors owned Royal Enfield on Friday launched its adventure tourer, Himalayan, which the oldest motorcycles brand claims to be built for all roads, and for no roads. In India, it has been priced at Rs 2.69 lakh available till December 31, 2023 and will be open for booking from today.

Introduced at the brand’s biggest motorcycling festival, Motoverse 2023, the Himalayan will be available in three variants: Base, Pass and Summit. The latest bike also comes in five colour options.

“Embarking on the creation of the new Himalayan, we immersed ourselves in the riding experiences of our community, engaging with globetrotters, explorers, and athletes. Informed by these insights and our own journey in the Himalayas, we retained the crucial elements of its DNA and worked on the areas for evolution in the new and evolved Himalayan which is absolutely purpose-built for the Himalayas,” said Royal Enfield CEO, B Govindarajan.

The Himalayan, which had its global debut at EICMA 2023 earlier this month, will go on sale in Europe in March 2024. Starting prices for the motorbike will be 5,750 pounds in the UK and 5900 euros in other European countries.

The chief also announced a special Himalayan Adventure calendar to encourage and further foster its community of riders to explore more.

The revamped Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by a brand-new 452 cc liquid-cooled DOHC single-cylinder engine that can produce 40 Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm and 39.5 horsepower at 8,000 rpm. A 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and assistance is coupled to the engine. It is now Royal Enfield’s most sophisticated engine to date.

The suspension system is made up of a pre-load adjustable monoshock at the back and 43 mm USD forks at the front with 200 mm of travel. A 320 mm single disc in front and a 270 mm disc at the back handle braking. The adventure touring motorcycle has a fuel tank capacity of 17 litres and weighs 196 kilogrammes. It has 17-inch back wheels and 21-inch front wheels with dual-purpose tyres on them.

The new RE Himalayan is equipped with a 4-inch circular TFT instrument cluster that integrates Google Maps, ride-by-wire, spoked wheels, a height-adjustable front seat, dual-purpose rear tail lights that double as turn indicators, riding modes, and LED lighting throughout.
