8th Pay Commission: The 8th Pay Commission seems to be on horizon, as per recent reports which suggest that things are moving ahead in the next proposed hike for central government employees. The 8th Pay Commission, if and when implemented, will undoubtedly bring a big salary hike for central government employees.

Here how much salary hike central government employees can expect under the 8th Pay Commission:

Currently, the basic salary of employees under the 7th Pay Commission regime is Rs 18,000, however, this will be revised under the 8th Pay Commission. The new basic pay of employees will be calculated from the old salary based on the fitment factor.

How much basic salary under 8th Pay Commission?

As per latest reports, fitment factor under the 8th Pay Commission could be hiked to 3.68 times which would likely take the basic pay of central government employees from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000, a hike of Rs 8,000 in the minimum salary.

Previously, the 7th Pay Commission had increased the fitment factor to 2.57 times, hiking basic salary to Rs 18,000.

When will 8th Pay Commission be implemented?

The right question here is not when, but if the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented by the government. According to reports, citing government sources, the centre is not presently considering the implementation of the next pay commission, but experts opine that it is impossible for any dispensation to do away with a robust system which has been in place for a long time.

Additionally, they believe that the 8th Pay Commission will not come into effect before January 1, 2026, meaning there is a lot of time left for its implementation.

Salary hike based on pay matrix

As already mentioned, the basic salary of central government employees could be hiked to Rs 26,000 from the current Rs 18,000 in Pay Matrix level 1 which continues till Pay Matrix Level 18.
