Oakland residents — owners and renters — can schedule a curbside pickup of bulky junk without incurring an extra charge as part of Waste Management’s trash services.
What: You can off-load up to four cubic yards (3 ft x 3 ft x 12 ft) of bulky waste and a number of large items like appliances, mattresses, consumer electronics and tires. Anything over the allotted amount may incur extra charges, however. Here are some examples:
Trash items
- Furniture and carpets (roll and tape all carpets)
- Non-hazardous, non-recyclable items (box or bag loose items)
- Painted wood/doors, home remodeling debris.
You can also add these large items (arrange separately):
- 2 appliances
- 4 mattress or box springs
- 4 automobile tires or smaller (rims ok)
- 4 computer monitors, CPUs or TVs
- Consumer electronics
- Scrap metal
- Cardboard (flattened and bundled)
- Plant debris (paper bagged)
- Branches (4 ft long, 6 in. wide limit) and clean wood (must be bundled)
What is prohibited
- No hazardous or medical waste. No rocks, dirt, concrete or fiberglass.
How: Call 1-888-WM-BULKY (1-888-962-8559) to schedule a pickup or request an appointment online.
When: Place items at the curb by 6 a.m. on the day of your appointment (typically on your trash pick-up day) to ensure collection. Do not place items curbside more than one day before your scheduled pick-up date or you may face a fine.
Frequency: One pickup is included annually as part of regular service. Single-family home residents can schedule a second free curbside pickup 45 days after the first curbside pickup.
