According to TikTok and tons of beauty product launches in the past few months, it’s a blush girl era. From Patrick Ta’s cream-powder layering blush technique to the latest “sun-kissed” blush trend, a flushed cheek is here to stay. With liquid blushes becoming the breakout formula this year, every brand is vying to be the best. One formula that stands out against the rest is Huda Beauty’s Blush Filter Soft Glow Liquid Blush ($21).

Unlike other liquid blushes on the market, this formula promises to be user-friendly. Founder Huda Kattan claims it’s so easy to apply, you can do it with your eyes closed without messing up. It’s supposed to effortlessly melt into the skin and deliver a natural, glowy radiance to your complexion. As someone who is a Huda Beauty fan and blush novice, I had to give this formula a try. The brand also just came out with two new brown shades as part of its Icy Nude Collection.

Ahead, you can read why this formula is perfect for those who are blush beginners, see swatches of all seven colors, and learn how to use it.

While I’ve been hesitant to use blush in the past, this unique formula completely changed my opinion. Previously, I was confused by blush blindness and couldn’t figure out whether or not certain shades complemented my skin tone. But Huda Beauty’s product delivers that beautiful, natural finish I’ve been looking for — the perfect balance between radiance and a flush of color. The lightweight formula melts into my skin, becoming one with my complexion without ruining my foundation underneath.

I was shocked to see that the majority of the five blush shades look decent on me. I knew Black Cherry would complement my tan, neutral skin tone, but the shade that surprised me most and has quickly become my favorite is Watermelon Pop, which adds a beautiful warmth to my complexion. I also love Strawberry Cream for a Barbie-pink cheek and the shade Peach Sorbet for a more sun-kissed look.

I love how the new brown shades give me a sculpted look while adding warmth to my complexion like a traditional bronzer. I love the shade Latte (pictured on the right) because it is a warm, chocolatey-brown that complements my skin tone beautifully and gives me a natural look. Whereas, the shade Coco Loco (pictured on the left) delivers a more sculpted, sharp look on my complexion, which is great for bolder looks and might be ideal for those with darker skin tones.

The best thing about this formula is how blendable and buildable it is compared to everything else on the market. I have complete control of how much of the product I want to use. It’s not so overly pigmented that it’s hard to work with, but I can layer and build upon it so that it shows up on my tan skin. I can go bold or keep it simple and natural.

It’s hard to make this blush look out of place (unless if you apply it on your chin). And if you mess up, adding a light layer of foundation does the trick to diffuse the pigment. It’s one of the best blush formulas for those who want something user-friendly and fuss-free.

How to Use the Huda Beauty Blush Filter Soft Glow Liquid Blush

Because of the liquid blush’s forgiving nature, it’s easy to apply and blend. The brand suggests applying three dots, but as you can see, I did several more. Use the applicator to dot the formula where you want to place the blush, then blend with your fingers or a dense brush with a patting motion. I like to apply the Blush Filter Soft Glow Liquid Blush on my cheekbones, rather than the apples of my cheeks, for a more sculpted, lifted appearance. Although this formula sets into a beautiful finish, you can dust a loose setting powder to pull the complexion together.

You can also get creative and combine two shades of the Blush Filter Soft Glow Liquid Blush for the “sunset blush” trend, or an ombré blush effect. The brand suggests applying three dots of the lighter blush shade on the center of the cheek, then placing two dots of the darker shade higher on the cheekbone and blending them to create a gradient effect. With the new brown shades from the Icy Nude collection, you can create a bronzy-blush look by applying two dots of the brown shade underneath the blush shade for a natural gradient that’s sculpting, sun-kissed, and warm.

What to Consider Before Trying the Huda Beauty Blush Filter Soft Glow Liquid Blush

Although you can traditionally apply liquid blush before foundation to underpaint, this blush is a bit too sheer for that technique. It’s best to use the Blush Filter Soft Glow Liquid Blush on top of your other complexion products, like foundation and contour color.

If you are a liquid blush pro, or prefer something pigmented where only one to two dots are needed, this formula may be too light for your liking. However, darker shades like Coco Loco and Black Cherry are a bit more pigmented and impactful than the rest, so it’s best to start off conservatively and build up the color if needed.

The blush also has a sweet, candy-like scent, which I don’t mind, but if you are sensitive to fragrance, it’s something you should consider.
