Fury took Wilder’s WBC heavyweight world title and ended his unbeaten record in the process.

This shocked many American fans, given that Wilder had previously claimed he would retire without ever suffering a loss.

He even expressed a desire to surpass Mayweather’s 50-0 record as he’d reached 42-0-1 before Fury stopped him.

During a Q&A session on his UK tour after that fateful rematch, Mayweather discussed the heavyweight division.

He offered to help Wilder prepare for the third fight and insisted he could show him how to beat Fury.

Mayweather boldly declared: “If I train him… If I train him I can teach him how to win.”

Fury saw these comments and responded on social media.

He posted: “Floyd Mayweather, no matter what you teach him, I will smash him.”

In the end, Wilder rejected Mayweather’s offer and instead put together a new training team headed up by Malik Scott.

He put in an improved performance as he floored Fury twice, but was ultimately put down three times himself, with the final knockdown being a straight KO.

What Is An Undisputed World Champion?

In boxing, an undisputed world champion is someone who wins all of the four major world title belts in their division – WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.

Fury currently has the WBC while Usyk holds the WBA, IBF and WBO. Therefore, the winner will hold all four belts as undisputed king.

The last man to hold all the belts in the division was Lennox Lewis when he beat Evander Holyfield to add his WBA and IBF titles to the WBC belt before what is now known as the ‘four-belt era’ with the WBO being recognised from 2004.

Talk about a fourth has never gone away, but Fury has gone onto bigger and better.

He beat Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora in 2022 and then, when it looked like he may fight Oleksandr Usyk, he opted to take on former UFC champion Francis Ngannou.

He narrowly won and now all eyes are on the undisputed clash with Usyk on Saturday night.
