Iconic Glasgow DJ duo Slam to return to Glasgow’s Arches after nearly ten years

Iconic DJ duo Slam are set to return to their “spiritual home” of Glasgow’s Arches after nearly ten years.

The Glasgow duo, aka Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle, will play an all night long set at Platform – formerly the iconic space known as the Arches – on Saturday, October 26.

Setting up the very first club night there in 1992, Slam went on to play at the venue every Friday until 1998, when they started their monthly Pressure nights until 2015 – when the Arches closed down due to licensing issues.

Selecting music from their entire 23-year legacy in the venue spanning from 1992-2015, the group said Slam: Return To Source will make up for not getting “the chance to say goodbye” to The Arches.

Famous the world over, Slam helped animate Glasgow’s underground house music scene in the late 1980s, going on to curate the Slam Tent at T in Park from 1997 onwards.

The duo said: “We spent most of our adult life playing at The Arches from 1992 to 2015, which were really special and exciting times when you look back.

“So, when the opportunity came up for us to return to the venue again, we were straight onboard.

“When The Arches was closed due to licensing issues in 2015, we never got the chance to throw one last party. Going back in time isn’t something we would normally consider, and when the venue was re-opened briefly last year, we were hesitant to get involved – then we were inundated with DMs on Facebook and Instagram asking why we weren’t playing.

“The venue, and those times throughout the 90s, were really special to us, but we had no idea how life changing it was to others. So, to say we’re excited for Slam Return To Source is an understatement!”

Formerly the iconic space known as the Arches, the building under Glasgow Central reopened as Platform food market in February 2018, offering customers a variety of dishes from a number of Glasgow eateries.

However, the group behind FLY Open Air Festival, Watchtower Group, launched a series of events at the space titled New World last December – complete with a 2am licence.

Slam added: “We’ll be playing all night long at Platform, and we’re already looking through our collections to find some of the iconic tracks that made our nights at The Arches so special.

“We’re looking forward to being back at our spiritual home back underneath those brick arches once more!”
