India-bound BMW R 1300 GS unveiled: New 145 hp boxer engine and fresh design

BMW Motorrad has globally unveiled the new-gen version of its flagship GS adventure touring range – the R 1300 GS, serving as a successor to the R 1250 GS for the 2024 model year. The new G 1300 GS, which is expected to arrive in India next year, features a fresh new design, gets a new engine, while also loses some weight.
Talking about the design first, the new BMW G 1300 GS gets a new X-shaped LED headlight which replaces the asymmetrical headlight seen on the previous generation models. The overall design looks more modern and compact than before, with BMW Motorrad claiming to have shelved off about 12 kgs of weight from the motorcycle as compared to the predecessor.

Powering the motorcycle is a brand-new 1,300 cc boxer twin engine putting out 145 hp of maximum power at 7,750 rpm, along with 149 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm. This makes it by far the most powerful BMW boxer engine ever to be produced in series. The power is up by 11 hp, while torque goes up by 6 Nm. The 6-speed gearbox is placed under the engine, making the overall packaging more compact.
The adventure tourer makes use of a new sheet metal shell main frame made of steel which is claimed to offer higher levels of stiffness than the predecessor model. For the rear frame, the previous tubular steel structure has now been replaced with a die-cast aluminium construction. The motorcycle gets a new electronic Dynamic Suspension Adjustment (DSA) which combines the dynamic adjustment of the front and rear damping with a corresponding adjustment of the spring rate (“spring stiffness”) – depending on the selected riding mode, riding condition and manoeuvres. The automatic adjustment of the spring rest ensures load compensation.
Exclusively in conjunction with DSA as optional equipment ex works, two further items of optional equipment are available for the suspension of the new R 1300 GS: the new adaptive vehicle height control and the sports suspension. The bike gets four riding modes as standard – Rain, Road, Eco and Enduro. Other features include Riding Assistant with Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW) and Lane Change Warning (SWW).
The BMW R 1300 GS is also equipped with a multifunctional instrument cluster with 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen, seat heating for rider and passenger, smartphone charging compartment with integrated USB socket and additional 12 V on-board power socket, keyless ride, heated grips, matrix LED headlamp, BMW Motorrad Full Integral ABS Pro and so on.
