Indian Man From Ludhiana Shot Dead In Canada; Investigation Underway, Target Killing Suspected

Amid diplomatic tensions between India and Canada, a suspected case of target killing has been reported in Surrey, Canada where an Indian-origin man from Ludhiana, Yuvraj Goyal has been shot dead.

Indian-Origin Man Shot Dead In Canada: The diplomatic relations between India and Canada have been quite poor for the last few months after Canadian PM Justin Trudeau blamed India for the death of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Amid severed relations, there has been a news development where an Indian-origin man has been shot dead in Surrey, Canada and while the exact reason for the murder remains unclear, target killing is suspected. The victim, Yuvraj Goyal belongs to Ludhiana, Punjab and had come to Canada in 2019, on a student visa and had recently got his Canadian Permanent Resident (PR) status.

As mentioned earlier, an Indian-origin man from Ludhiana, Punjab has been shot dead in Surrey, Canada. The 28-year-old man was working as a sales executive and had no criminal record; his father Rajesh Goyal runs a firewood business and his mother, Shakun Goyal is a homemaker. According to the Royal Canadian Police, the incident took place at 8:46 AM on June 7 when the police received a call which reported of a shooting in the 900-block of 164 street in Surrey. Four suspects were taken into custody after officers found Yuvraj dead.

Four Suspects Taken Into Custody, Investigation Underway

As said before, the Canadian Police has taken four people into custody and they have been charged with first-degree murder. According to a report by NDTV, the four suspects are, Manvir Basram (23), Sahib Basra (20), and Harkirat Jhutty (23) of Surrey, and Keilon Francois (20) of Ontario. Target killing is a possible reason in the preliminary investigation. Sergeant Timothy Pierotti was quoted as saying, “We are thankful for the hard work of the Surrey RCMP, Air 1, and Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT), but there is still more work to be done. Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) investigators remain dedicated to determining why Mr Goyal was the victim of this homicide.”
