Indian Market: 2023 Hyundai i20 vs Maruti Baleno: Engine, features, pricing comparison

Hyundai Motor India recently launched the new Hyundai i20 facelift to the Indian market. The new i20 gets a new design, additional features and revised engine options. The new i20 continues to compete with Tata Altroz and Maruti Suzuki Baleno. In this story let’s take a quick look at the comparison between two hatchbacks.

The new Hyundai i20 is offered in five variants – Era, Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). The price for the hatchback starts from Rs 6.99 lakh and goes up to 11.01 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom). The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is offered in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The price for the Baleno starts from Rs 6.61 lakh and goes up to 9.88 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom).

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is offered in six colour options – Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Nexa Blue, Opulent Red and Luxe Beige. The i20 gets a new Amazon Grey colour option, along with Atlas White, Titan Gray, Typhoon Silver, Starry Night, and Fiery Red. It also gets dual-tone options of Atlas White + Black Roof and Fiery Red + Black Roof.

In terms of features, the new i20 gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, digital instrument cluster, seven-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charger, single-pane sunroof, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, Type-C charging ports, cruise control and connected car tech with over 60+ connected features.
Safety features include – six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, hill assist control, three-point seatbelts and reminder for all seats, reverse parking camera and TPMS.

Talking about the features in the Baleno, the hatch gets a 9.0-inch Smartplay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa support, semi-digital cluster, voice command support, ‘Suzuki Connect‘ connected car tech, a heads-up display (HUD), 360-degree camera, auto-dimming IRVM, automatic climate control, automatic LED headlights and Arkamys sound system. Safety features in the Baleno include six airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist and ISOFIX anchors, ESC and hill hold assist.

Talking about the powertrain and gearbox, both Baleno and i20 are offered in a single-engine option. The i20 gets a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, NA VTVT Petrol engine which puts out 83 hp of power and 115 Nm of torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic.
