Philippines was the first country in the world to buy the BrahMos missile.
Moscow: The world’s fastest cruise missile BrahMos, jointly built by India and Russia, is gaining popularity across the world. India has already supplied the BrahMos missile to the Philippines, which had been struggling against Chinese aggression.
As per reports, at least three more countries can reach a pact with India to purchase the top-notch supersonic cruise missile. Speaking to Russian news agency TASS, Alexander B Makshichev, Joint Managing Director of BrahMos Aerospace, said that China’s neighbour Vietnam, the world’s largest Muslim country Indonesia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are in talks about the missile.
BrahMos missile is renowned globally for its speed and accuracy.
The cutting-edge, supersonic cruise missile BrahMos has been developed through a joint venture between Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyeniya.
“The UAE, Indonesia, and Vietnam are prima facie showing interest in the missile,” Alexander said. He said an agreement can be signed with these three countries for the supply of BrahMos missiles. However, he did not say how far this negotiation has reached for the missile deal.
Philippines was the first country in the world to buy the BrahMos missile.
The BrahMos missile is named after the Brahmaputra river in India and the Moskva river in Russia. This missile is included in all three armed wings of India. The range of this missile is 300 to 500 km, it is equipped with stealth technology due to which it is not easy for the enemy to track it.
Currently, Russia and India are working together on the hypersonic version of BrahMos missile. It has been named BrahMos 2. This new missile will be able to attack the enemy with the hypersonic speed of Mach 6.
Hypersonic scramjet technology is being installed inside the new BrahMos missile. Earlier, the Philippines had signed an agreement of $ 375 million with India in the year 2022. India has also supplied anti-ship BrahMos missile to the Philippines.
Amid increasing tension in the world, UAE, Indonesia, and Vietnam are also looking towards this Indo-Russian venture. India has close relations with all the three countries.
