Infiniti Finally Puts The Q50 Out Of Its Misery

After a decade without a real redesign, the Infiniti Q50 will finally die after the 2024 model year. A company spokesperson confirmed it to the Autopian, saying, “Yes, confirming 2024 is the last model year for the Q50.” There really isn’t much ambiguity in a statement like that. It’s officially over. RIP in peace, Infiniti Q50.

Infiniti expanded on its statement when contacted by Motor1, saying:

Acting on our commitment to transform our vehicle line with four new products beginning with the all-new 2025 QX80, the INFINITI Q50 sedan will not be available in the United States and Canada after the 2024 model year.

The Q50 has an incredible fan base as a formidable sports sedan, while remaining one of our most popular vehicles since its introduction in 2013. The Q50’s spirit will certainly live on in our first EV, a sports sedan previewed by the Vision Qe concept which made its debut last October.

When the Q50 was introduced for the 2014 model year, Infiniti reportedly hoped it would be the first of several new vehicles in its lineup that would allow it to challenge other luxury automakers in a way that it hadn’t before. On some fronts, Infiniti succeeded, implementing the first drive-by-wire system ever offered in a production car. The styling was also attractive, and the interior felt like a step up from the G37 it replaced. It was also initially offered with a V6 that made a healthy 328 horsepower and as a hybrid that made 390 hp.

While Infiniti packed a lot of technology into the Q50 and gave it plenty of power, it ultimately just wasn’t very fun to drive. We eventually got the 400-horsepower Q50 Red Sport 400, but other than being hilariously undertired, it still wasn’t particularly fun to drive. After years without a redesign, it also became less and less relevant. In a way, it’s sad to see the Q50 go, but it’ll probably be happier when it joins the great parking lot in the sky.
