IPad Pro Upgrade: iPad Pro could get its first major upgrade in half a decade

It was half a decade ago, in 2018 when the iPad Pro had its last major overhaul. Since then, it has had only a few minor improvements, including a microLED display (only the larger 12.9-inch, though), M series Apple silicon, and cameras.
But the iPad Pro is not the only iPads to have undergone some changes; other models – iPad Air, iPad mini, and the iPad – have also been donning the new design and latest of the Apple Silicon.
While the lineup is as good as ever, it has also been creating confusion among buyers. And all this while the tablet market is struggling, and Apple is taking the hit, too. Once considered a potential successor to the Mac, the iPad now generates negligible revenue among Apple’s significant segments. Sales hit their lowest level since early 2020, with unit shipments declining 17% in Q2. And Apple’s minor upgrades are not helping it buy new buyers. But, a new iPad Pro is coming in, which Mark Gurman of Bloomberg notes as the most significant overhaul since 2018.
OLED screens, M3 chip, and a new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro
The next iPad Pro models, codenamed J717, J718, J720, and J721, will feature OLED displays – which should be crisper, brighter and reproduce more accurate colours. Further, Gurman believes the next-gen M3 chips will power the new Pro models. The new models will come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, so the largest model would be 0.1 inches bigger than the current larger model, which is 12.9-inch. However, it is unclear if both the models will have OLED screens or if they will be similar to the current lineup, where the larger iPad Pro has a microLED, while the other has an LCD screen.
Not just that, but the new iPads Pro will also come with a revamped Magic Keyboard. Gurman says that the new Magic Keyboard will feature a larger trackpad and will make the iPad look more like a laptop.
However, it is not coming anytime soon. Gurman expects the revamped iPad Pro will hit the shelves next year only after the spring.
