New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has issued a warning for general public about fake advertisements and scams regarding online ticket refunds.

The IRCTC has issued a cautionary notice to its users, alerting them to an increasing trend of online financial scams perpetrated under the guise of ticket refunds.

Scams are being conducted through Google ads offering assistance with ticket refunds. IRCTC has clarified that it does not request personal banking details from users or require the installation of remote control applications such as Anydesk or TeamViewer.

The railway authority issued this notice and warning because numerous individuals are at risk of being defrauded by online scammers under the guise of offering fake ticket refunds. These scammers may obtain confidential information by masquerading as an IRCTC website. Users looking for ticket refunds on Google may be led to fraudulent IRCTC websites that solicit their personal and banking details.

The IRCTC recently issued a warning via its social media channels. “To avoid becoming a victim of scams, users are advised not to search for IRCTC customer care numbers on social media or through search engines,” the IRCTC stated.

Millions utilize IRCTC for online ticket bookings. However, in the rare event of a train cancellation or a change in travel date, the platform provides a refund process. IRCTC has established a system for this, which involves reaching out through its official website or app, or by emailing and calling their official support number.

How To Get Ticket Refunds From IRCTC

In its security memo, IRCTC has disclosed essential contact details for obtaining ticket refunds. These include the ‘Contact Us’ section on the IRCTC website or app, emailing [email protected], or calling the official support number 14646.
