Jennifer Lawrence Adds Archival Couture to Her Maternity Wardrobe

Jennifer Lawrence is giving her baby bump its red carpet debut as only she could: decked out in archival couture. Last night, the actor attended the Los Angeles premiere of the film Bread & Roses—a documentary she produced alongside Malala Yousafzai about the lives of women in Kabul, Afghanistan under Taliban rule.

For the occasion, Lawrence and her stylist, Jamie Mizrahi, turned to vintage curator Cherie Balch at Shrimpton Couture, settling on a piece from Christian Lacroix’s fall 2006 couture collection. “This was one of the first pieces I thought of for her and even before Jennifer and Jamie saw it in person they were head over heels,” Balch wrote on Instagram. “We all just KNEW!”

The black dress, originally worn on the runway by Kamila Szczawinska, draped over Lawrence to perfection, its empire waist highlighting her bump. Thanks to some nearly invisible spaghetti straps, the dress appeared to be an off-the-shoulder number, with sheer black sleeves hanging off of her shoulders. The Oscar nominee kept the rest of her look simple, opting for an open-toe black Manolo Blahnik sandal and Anita Ko jewelry.

This isn’t the first time she’s flexed her fashion muscles in an astounding archive piece. At the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party earlier this year, she turned heads in a sheer white 1996 Givenchy couture dress by John Galliano—worn on the runway by Kate Moss, no less. There’s no doubt in our minds that Jennifer Lawrence knows how to meet the moment with her fashion. Now she’s bringing a plus-one along for the ride.
