Jeremy Clarkson is not a great person, however the man does have good taste in cars; take this Ford Escort RS Cosworth that served as Clarkson’s daily driver for a year. Actually, with enough cash, you can take this Ford Escort RS Cosworth, as it’s heading to auction.
This 1992 Ford Escort Cosworth is being auctioned off by Iconic Auctioneers. If you aren’t familiar with the Escort RS Cosworth, it was a rally homologation special built by Ford Europe for WRC compliance. Power came from a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 by British engineering firm Cosworth and made 224 horsepower. With its four-wheel-drive system it was capable of hitting 60 mph in under five seconds.
This particular Escort RS Cosworth has an interesting history. According to Iconic, this RS was one of three engineering prototypes built by Ford. They were built at a cost of over $300,000 each.
Clarkson however never technically owned the car, despite it being described as his. The car was offered to Clarkson on a year long loan where he reviewed and used it for many features. It was then offered as a prize in Top Gear Magazine where the winner received a year of free insurance. Clarkson got his hands on the Cosworth again in 2000 for his “Clarkson’s Car Years” TV series.
Despite that extensive history, the car looks to be in great shape. The exterior is finished in Mallard Green. Iconic says the current owner put on a set of brand new NOS wheels and replaced the headliner on the Raven Hide interior.
Iconic says bidding will start in the range of £65,000 – £75,000 or $85,000-$96,000 at current exchange rates. If you’re interested, the auction is set to begin on August 24.
