John Fogerty dropped from Country Fest Queensland, sparking backlash from furious fans

American rock legend John Fogerty says he has been “blindsided” after being cut from the line up of a Queensland music festival, apparently with no explanation.

Fogerty, 78, who rose to fame as part of the band Creedence Clearwater Revival, had originally said he was “looking forward to coming back” to Australia for the first time in more than 10 years, for his one and only show on March 31.

The Proud Mary singer was billed to head the line-up for Country Fest Queensland in Bloomsbury, north of Mackay.

But organisers have shocked fans by releasing a statement saying the singer would no longer be performing.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, John Fogerty will no longer be attending our country fest Queensland line up event,” the event organisers said in the online statement.

“We are working hard on a revised line up and will have more information coming soon.”

Ticket holders who no longer wished to attend the event “due to the non-appearance of John Fogerty” were advised to contact Qztix for refund options.

Fogerty has responded to the statement, telling fans he has been “blindsided” by the cancellation.

“I was ready to celebrate with you all for my one and only show this year in Australia when the Country Fest Queensland blindsided me yesterday by cancelling my appearance,” he posted to social media.

“It was posted that I would not be appearing due to unforeseen circumstances.

“Well, I can tell you, my friends, I was ready to come down there and excited to celebrate getting my songs back with all of you.

“Look for a further statement from me later today.”

Country Fest Queensland organisers have been contacted for comment.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Queensland festival billing is still showing on Fogerty’s website’s upcoming tour dates.

“Gotta love when others make statements that throw you under the bus,” one fan commented online.

Another fan said they had been “counting down the days” to see Fogerty and the cancellation “brought tears” to their eyes.

“Us Aussies that bought tickets to come see you are extremely disappointed to hear this.”
