To mark the release of Queer, the film adaptation of William S Burroughs’ novel, JW Anderson has launched an exclusive capsule collection.
Designer Jonathan Anderson has a strong association with the movie — which was directed by Luca Guadagnino and stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey — as he followed in a long tradition of commercial designers by creating its costumes.
As for the new collection, it features graphics aligning with the film’s posters, central imagery, and themes of Queer across ready-to-wear and accessories.
It has all just gone on sale from JW Anderson Soho in London, JW Anderson in Milan and at the label’s webstore. Prices range from £100 for a T-shirt up to £225 for a hoodie.
The word ‘Queer’ appears on the hoodies, with bead-embellished drawstrings aligning with elements from the film.
The quote, ‘I want to talk to you… without speaking’ is also seen on the back of the hoodies. Four sweatshirts, in grey, gold, bright pink and steel blue showcase the film’s title alongside film credits, “echoing Queer’s official poster design”.
Additional sweatshirts “feature evocative images” from the film, such as stills of the lead characters, symbolic images of guns and landscapes, and a flat lay of key objects from the storyline. A grey melange T-shirt is “printed to mimic the centipede necklace, a symbol of transformation in the film”.
It’s a fairly extensive collection that also includes accessories to “echo the visual motifs of the apparel”. There’s an off-white tote bag and two khaki caps, featuring images and the word Queer.
