Although I firmly believe that eyebrows are the window to the soul, not the eyes, I still think they carry some weight — even more so if they’re wearing the right mascara. Although my go-to makeup pick is usually bronzer, I can see the value in a good mascara, especially for someone with eyelashes like mine.

My lashes have gone from short and stubby to long thanks to an eyelash serum, but they’re still hard to see when I’m makeup-free. I recently started using an invisible mascara hack that gives them a lot of oomph, but when I’m going out on a date or with girlfriends, I need something a little heftier. When I heard Kylie Cosmetics was launching the Wisp Lash Mascara ($24), I knew I needed to get my hands on it ASAP.

What I Like About the Kylie Cosmetics Wisp Lash Mascara

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Kylie Cosmetics. The brand’s concealer is my go-to product for covering up dark circles, and its foundation works for even my dry, acne-prone skin. Its original mascara, the Kylash Volume Mascara, is one of my favorite formulas to ever exist. Although I wasn’t sure whether the new product would be equal (or better), I was excited to try it out.

The first thing I noticed when I tested it out was how lightweight it is. The formula seemed a little thinner than Kylash. While the other mascara was good for layering and adding volume, the new one separated my eyelashes easily while lengthening. I didn’t have any issues with clumps, and it made my lashes look great. It’s the perfect “clean girl” product, if you will.

I’ve used it a bunch since that initial trial run, and my favorite thing about it is that there’s zero fallout or smudging. Yes, it’s great for those no-makeup makeup days, but I’ve also worn it on nights out and it’s lasted me hours without any issues.

How to Use the Kylie Cosmetics Wisp Lash Mascara

The brand recommends starting at the base of your eyelashes and pulling the mascara brush through from root to tip. It also says if you typically use an eyelash curler, feel free to do that.

I always curl my lashes, but I like to heat up my eyelash curler using a blow dryer to really make it last. After holding the eyelash curler to each eye for eight seconds, I apply my mascara, starting at the base of my lashes. I use a wiggling motion back and forth to grab each lash until I reach the tips. And lastly, I like to concentrate more product on the outer lashes to create a winged effect.

What to Consider Before Trying the Kylie Cosmetics Wisp Lash Mascara

If you’re a fan of the Kylie Cosmetics volume mascara, you’re probably aware how thick it makes your lashes look. The brand notes that the original formula should be used if you’re looking to achieve volume, fullness, and definition; the newer formula is focused on lengthening, separation, and curl.

I’ve tested both formulas and I think they’re both amazing, but it’s important to note what you’re looking for when choosing which product you plan to use.
