LaQuan Smith’s spring 2025 collection showed the designer’s understanding of his bold client, one who knows she’s the center of attention.
The designer centered the collection on the theme of “animalistic glamour,” using an earthy color palette of browns, khakis and yellows and transforming snake prints onto sheer leather and chiffon to create looks that continued his sensual design codes and brought them forward in a new way.
“I was really inspired by a lot of the palettes of wildlife, so I was thinking the New York woman and she’s in the concrete jungle in New York in the spring season wearing LaQuan. How does she then live her life on the global scale?” he said.
Smith balanced an airy fragility with more military designs to create a rounded collection of classic daywear and daring party looks. Khaki styles were modernized through new silhouettes like low-rise oversize trousers, off-the-shoulder dresses and fitted military-style jackets.
This tough quality was balanced with more feminine chiffon and silk pieces, including several bridal-inspired styles, which were new for the designer.
“I want to end the collection with this stark white iridescent satin,” he said. “You can almost sell it as a bridal collection, but I just want to end the collection on this note of a breath of fresh air.”
The maturity Smith introduced in the fall was continued through luxurious fabrics and silhouettes, like an off-white paillette-embellished strapless top and matching trousers and an iridescent oversize suit set. The styles offered a mature take on Smith’s classic party aesthetic and showed his evolution as a designer.
He still leaned into the youthful vibe with an array of cutout and micro-mini styles, like a yellow ostrich feather set and denim minidresses that showed Smith’s understanding of his everyday client.
Smith continued to evolve his core design codes for spring, bringing a fresh perspective to a range of categories and types of clients.
