SAN FRANCISCO – Two people were injured Monday afternoon when a large eucalyptus tree fell and damaged five cars in Golden Gate Park, according to fire officials.
The incident was reported just before 4 p.m. at Crossover Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Eleven car occupants were evaluated and declared “safe,” the San Francisco Fire Department said in a social media post. Two suffered injuries, which were not considered life-threatening.
All lanes of 19th Avenue, which turns into Crossover Drive, were closed following the incident. As of 6:45 p.m., one lane of northbound 19th Avenue was open, but southbound 19th Avenue between Crossover Drive and Lincoln Way was still blocked.
City arborists were working with firefighters to remove the tree so the cars could be towed, according to fire officials. Four cars in the southbound direction of Crossover Drive were damaged and one car in the northbound direction was damaged.
