It was a scary scene in Arlington as Detroit Lions superstar pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson had to be carted off the field after suffering an apparent leg injury against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Detroit officially ruled him out soon after with a lower-leg injury.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Hutchinson underwent surgery on his tibia at a Dallas-area hospital on what the team is calling a broken tibia.
After the game, head coach Dan Campbell told reporters that Hutchinson would be staying in Dallas for further evaluation and that “He’ll be down for a little while.”
The injury occurred in the third quarter while Hutchinson went for a sack on Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. While bringing down Prescott, Hutchinson’s leg collided with his teammates and seemed to bend awkwardly at his tibia.
He immediately went down and grabbed at his leg after the play, needing the team’s medical personnel to come out onto the field to cart him off.
The 24-year-old has had a stellar third season in the league, leading the league with 6.5 sacks and has six tackles for loss, 14 QB hits and a forced fumble.
The Plymouth, Mich., native was drafted second overall by the Lions in 2022. He was named to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career last season after finishing with 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and 33 QB hits.
