Lions continue to invest in O-Line with massive extension

The Lions have made it a focus to continue investing in their offensive line this offseason, and that remained the case on Monday.

During an appearance on 97.1 The Ticket, general manager Brad Holmes said that left tackle Taylor Decker is signing a three-year extension with the team. Decker’s agent Jonathan Feinsod confirmed the news shortly after.

“Congratulations Deck!! Well earned!! No days off!” Feinsod posted on platform X.

The three-year deal is reportedly worth $60M with $31.83M in guaranteed money and will keep Decker, who was entering the final year of his deal, with the Lions through the 2027 season.

Decker does give up some sacks at times — eight last season — but he has been a reliable blindside blocker throughout his eight-year NFL career, which began as the No. 16 overall pick in 2016.

The 30-year-old isn’t the only offensive lineman Detroit has locked up this offseason, either.

The Lions also signed right tackle Penei Sewell to a four-year, $112M contract extension and left guard Graham Glasgow to a three-year, $20M deal. The team added Pro Bowl guard Kevin Zeitler on a one-year deal, too.

Decker, Sewell and Glasgow were big reasons why the Lions averaged the fifth-most rushing yards per game (135.9) and second-most passing yards per game (258.9) in the league last season and will be major factors once again as they look to pick up right where they left off.

Investing in the trenches is a commonality between the best teams in the league, and Detroit is following suit after coming up just three points shy to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC title game.

It also ensures that quarterback Jared Goff, who received a four-year, $212M payday in May, is well-protected as the Lions are looking to make another deep postseason run this season.
