New Delhi: Litton Das has been named the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies. This appointment is particularly significant as it marks the first time he will lead the team throughout a series. Litton previously filled in for a single match against New Zealand in April 2021, where he demonstrated his leadership potential.

The squad features some exciting changes, including the return of batting allrounder Shamim Hossain. At just 24 years old, Shamim has shown great promise, scoring 254 runs at a strike rate of 115.98 in his 14 T20I innings, which includes a half-century. His presence will surely add strength to the batting order.

Another notable selection is the young medium-fast bowler, Ripon Mondol, who at 21 years old caught everyone’s attention during the Asian Games in October 2023. He took four wickets in three matches, playing a key role in helping Bangladesh clinch the bronze medal. This impressive performance earned him a well-deserved spot in the T20I squad.

The team also includes left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed and fast bowler Hasan Mahmud. Soumya Sarkar is in great form, having contributed significantly to the Rangpur Riders’ victory in the Global Super League. However, regular captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is missing from the lineup due to a hamstring injury, leaving uncertainty around his future as leader.

Questions loom over the future of veteran allrounder Shakib Al Hasan in international cricket, as there’s been no update on his availability. Mahmudullah has also announced his retirement from T20Is, and a number of other key players are absent from the squad. Despite having recent leadership experience, Mehidy Hasan Miraz has not been chosen for the T20I captaincy, signaling a shift in the team’s strategic direction.
