L’Oréal sells organic cosmetics brand Sanoflore

L’Oréal Group has just sold the organic cosmetics brand Sanaflore to Ekkio Capital, a French investment fund specializing in SMEs in the health and beauty sector, and Sergio Calandri, founder of the Inula group, a specialist in natural therapeutics whose portfolio includes the HerbalGem and Biofloral brands. Spotted by French media outlet LSA, this undisclosed transaction makes Sergio Calandri the new CEO of Sanoflore.

“Sanoflore is now independent again, with new management, new shareholders and new ambitions.
We are delighted to welcome the Laboratoire Sanoflore research and formulation teams, who have developed a unique range of organic face care products. We are also recruiting around 30 employees in all other functions,” says Sergio Calandri via LinkedIn.

Acquired by L’Oréal Group in 2006, Sanoflore, which operated within the global beauty giant’s Beauté Dermatologique division, recorded sales of 2.9 million euros in 2021, according to legal documents. A performance certainly far removed from those of some of the group’s heavyweights, such as La Roche-Posay or CeraVe. In 2022, the division as a whole achieved sales of 5.1 billion euros, up 30.6%.

Contacted by FashionNetwork.com, L’Oréal Group said: “L’Oréal has a portfolio of complementary brands. The group’s strategy is to acquire brands, and sometimes to dispose of them, in order to maintain a portfolio of strong, complementary brands that will enable us to prosper over the long term. The success of the L’Oréal Beauté Dermatologique division is based on a strategy and business model, which is focused on the internationalization of complementary dermatological brands prescribed by healthcare professionals.”

The group specifies that this sale will not result in any redundancies in France.

In 2010, L’Oréal had already sold the Sanoflore plant, located in Gigors-et-Lozeron in the Drôme region, to French manufacturer Fareva.
