As someone who likes to include an orgasm in her morning routine each day, I consider myself to be a masturbation expert of sorts. Sometimes I use my fingers, other times I use a sex toy. But like many people with vaginas, I struggle to have an orgasm through vaginal sex alone. That was, at least, until I tried the Magic Wand ($70) for the first time.

The Magic Wand is well known for being one of the best vibrators on the market. With a major cameo in “Sex and the City” and a shout out from Heidi Klum, who boldly proclaimed it to be her favorite sex toy on an episode of “Call Her Daddy,” the Magic Wand has become a staple in bedside drawers all around the world. For obvious reasons, I needed to investigate the mystical powers the Magic Wand is said to possess for myself.

The first time I tried the Magic Wand, I brought it in the bedroom with my partner, and the cult-classic sex toy exceeded my expectations. Not only did my orgasm come so naturally when I used it with my partner, but it came quicker than I ever thought was possible. The second time I used it, I masturbated by myself, and while it took a little longer than two minutes for me to orgasm, I was not expecting that kind of visceral response.

If you’re ready to change the way you climax or make your orgasms a whole lot better, here’s everything you need to know about the Magic Wand.

About the Magic Wand

  • It contains a corded power plug that extends six feet.
  • There are two vibration modes, with power levels that reach up to 6,000 RPM.
  • It has an ultra soft vinyl head that bends comfortably to accommodate what feels best on the clitoris or other erogenous zones.

What I Like About The Magic Wand

For starters, I really appreciated how simple the Magic Wand is. It doesn’t complicate pleasure with fancy bells and whistles. While I was initially intimidated by the colossal size of the toy, I appreciated the size and texture of the vinyl head, which bended to help me find my sweet spots.

I also loved the way the body fit in my hands, which has two intuitive switches, allowing me to conveniently dial between the settings. The vibrations of the Magic Wand felt incredible against my clitoris, and it totally justified the volume of its powerful roar. I preferred the lower setting, because honestly, the higher setting was too intense for me, but if you prefer harder vibrations on your clitoris, you may enjoy the higher setting more than I did.

What’s Worth Noting About the Magic Wand

If you have roommates like I do, keep in mind that the Magic Wand is pretty loud. I found that getting cozy under the blankets made the sound less obvious, but if you live with your parents or in a small space with other people, you may want to wait to use the Magic Wand until you have the space completely to yourself.

If there’s anything I learned from testing out the Magic Wand, it’s that Heidi Klum has exceptional taste.

Another thing to keep in mind: the Magic Wand is powered by a power plug, so you’ll need to be near an outlet in order to enjoy it. The good news is, the cord is six feet, so it definitely reaches wherever you want it. But if this is a dealbreaker, no stress; the Magic Wand also comes in other styles that don’t require a power cord: there’s the Magic Wand Rechargeable ($140), the Magic Wand Mini ($89), and the Magic Wand Micro ($65).

There’s also only two vibration settings, so if you only get off to the morse-code-type of vibrations, you might have to adjust your preferences. Personally, I felt like the settings were both powerful and pleasurable in their own right, but to each their own.

Who Is the Magic Wand Best For?

The Magic Wand is best for those who need clitoral stimulation to orgasm. If you’re not into the extra features and want something simple to chase your orgasm, this toy is for you. It’s also good for people who struggle with climaxing through penetration or those who want to elevate their orgasm experience during sex. It’s easy to use and hold during partnered sex, and when you’re masturbating, it’s very, very efficient.

Is the Magic Wand Worth the Splurge?

I know that sex toys can seem like an unnecessary splurge sometimes, but based on how quickly I reached my orgasm alone, I’d say with confidence that the Magic Wand is worth every penny. Compared to some of the other higher-end vibrators that can be well above $200, the Magic Wand is affordable if you don’t mind the cord. But even if it was double in price, I still think it would still be my go-to vibrator. If there’s anything I learned from testing out the Magic Wand, it’s that Heidi Klum has exceptional taste.
