The driver of a big rig that crashed into another unoccupied big rig on a major bypass road connecting Contra Costa and Alameda counties Wednesday suffered a broken arm but no other serious injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash shut down both lanes of Vasco Road for about 2½ hours after occurring around 10:55 a.m., according to CHP spokesperson Ofc. Adam Lane.
Lane said the driver hit an unoccupied big rig while driving southbound on Vasco Road toward Livermore. The collision happened near Camino Diablo, Lane said.
An ambulance took the big rig driver to a hospital, where he was treated and released.
Originally, the CHP said the big rig hit a van.
All lanes were back open by 1:30 p.m. The CHP advised motorists to avoid the area during the shutdown and to use alternative routes.
