An Iowa man has been arrested and charged with indecent exposure for an incident in March where witnesses say he pleasured himself at a Kum & Go gas station, then vacated the premises. Because in Iowa, if you build it they will…you know.
I’m from New Jersey and I am no stranger to gas stations with goofy names. Wawa is known for a solid cup of coffee and surprisingly good food when you need a quick bite on the road. Take a trip down Highway 95 and you will encounter Buc-ees where you can buy some pretty interesting items. Even though Sheetz makes me imagine what happens in their restrooms, the lower Midwest takes the cake with a gas station called Kum & Go.
According to The Smoking Gun and local radio station 1630kcjj.com, Kenneth Lee Kelly, 54 of Iowa City was arrested on an indecent exposure charge, that happened back in March. The report indicates that witnesses called 911 about an “unknown individual” at a Kum & Go gas station who they say said “sexual things” and then proceeded to expose his privates and pleasure himself. The suspect then left.
Local police launched an investigation and determined that Mr. Kelly was a suspect after viewing surveillance footage. When confronted Mr. Kelly admitted that his clothing matched the man in the video but denied being the perpetrator. Witnesses positively identified him in a suspect lineup, and the police obtained a warrant to search Mr. Kelly’s house to find the matching clothing.
Once charged with a misdemeanor of indecent exposure, Mr. Kelly clarified that he was just “scratching his genitals” and not actually exposing himself. He faces up to a year in jail if convicted. He has previous convictions for convictions for felony theft, narcotics possession, driving without a license, and marijuana possession
It seems Mr. Kelly misunderstood the nature of handling business at Kum & Go.
