SAN JOSE — A man suspected of intruding on a girls’ locker room and recording students earlier this week has been arrested, according to San Jose police.
Police officers were called at 2:26 p.m. Monday for a trespassing report at Bret Harte Middle School, where school staff told them that a man entered the girls’ locker room occupied by female students. The man “had a mobile device and used it to record inside of the locker room,” police said.
When staff confronted the man, he fled. An ensuing investigation by the SJPD Sexual Assault Investigations Unit, as well as a canvass of the neighborhood, led to 41-year-old San Jose resident Trevis Allen Street being identified as a suspect.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, police said they located and arrested Street in San Jose on Wednesday and booked him on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material and recording minors with a hidden camera in a private area. He was criminally charged Friday, according to court records.
Jail records show Street was being held in the Elmwood men’s jail in Milpitas in lieu of $1 million bail. Street also has three active court cases that have been suspended pending a mental competency examination assessing his fitness to participate in his own legal defense and stand trial. Records show that he had several hearings this past year in mental health court in Santa Clara County.
One of the cases dates back to July 2019: Street was charged with misdemeanor battery and a misdemeanor count of destroying or concealing evidence. Another case involves an felony arson charge filed in February accusing him of setting an apartment building on fire. The third case was filed in March, consisting of a felony charge of carrying a concealed dirk or dagger and misdemeanor charges of providing a false name to police and resisting arrest.
