SAN JOSE – A man who was shot last November near Backesto Park in San Jose died of his injuries this week, according to authorities.
The shooting happened around 11:20 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the 100 block of North 14th Street, San Jose police Officer Tanya Hernandez said in a news release Wednesday. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
The victim, who was initially hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, died Monday, according to Hernandez. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
The death marked the second homicide of the year in the city. The same number of killings had been investigated at this time last year.
David Robert Cardoza, 37, of San Jose, was arrested following the shooting and remained in custody Wednesday. Hernandez said his charges will be amended to include murder.
Authorities have not publicly identified a motive for the shooting.
