Mango Heritage collection dives into its 1990s archive

Brand anniversaries and heritage collections are very much in fashion at the moment and Mango has started 2024 with the launch of its own MNG Heritage collection in celebration of its 40th anniversary that pays tribute to its 1990s archive.

The Spanish fashion retail giant said the collection is an “ode to its most iconic looks and patterns from this emblematic fashion era”.

It has “exhaustively researched” its archives in order to “recover and reinterpret some of the most legendary designs from that period”.

It’s a clear illustration of just how important 90s looks have been in the past couple of years and how well they adapt to current fashion sensibilities.

The offer comes with a campaign shot by Mark Borthwick through “fresh, inspiring, elevated and fashionable garments” that reflect a decade the company said is “more contemporary than ever and back on trend”.

So what does that mean in practice? The collection is defined and led by “tighter fits, stretch fabrics such as nylon, leather and denim, as well as minimalist designs along with neutral tones”.

The retailer also said it has “rescued” the MNG logo with the three letters “still very much in force 40 years later”.

Mango has bounced back in recent years after a bruising period not so long ago and it’s most recent results have been characterised by surging sales and profits with the company expanding its retail stores and taking its fresh Mediterranean concept to multiple markets.

This latest appropriation of its own heritage is a sign of its confidence and comes after the retailer has found success with a number of link-ups and special collections.
