Manolo Blahnik Group is gearing up for further international expansion with the luxury footwear and accessories brand having opened its first mainland China boutique in Shanghai’s Plaza 66 on Thursday.
The move marks “a significant milestone in the brand’s global expansion,” it said, and follows the successful launch of two new stores in Hong Kong last month, “solidifying the brand’s commitment to the Chinese market”.
The new space is located at Plaza 66’s west gate atrium and is the label’s 20th store globally.
It was designed by CEO Kristina Blahnik, a professionally trained architect before her change of direction 15 years ago when she joined the label that had been founded by her uncle in 1970.
The store has a symmetrical layout with a “geometric focal point, modern floor design, and vibrant furniture inspired by Chen Darui”.
The overall space is inspired by the concept that was initially used in the Manolo Blahnik boutique in Burlington Arcade in London “echoing a ‘living room’ style, which Blahnik spaces are renowned for”.
The opening comes with the label creating two exclusive styles for the store and also sees the location showcasing seasonal men’s and women’s collections, alongside the Manolo’s Silhouettes collection, featuring “iconic designs that embody the brand’s signature elegance and craftsmanship”.
As mentioned, last month the company opened two new Hong Kong boutiques. They’re at Ocean Centre where the brand introduced its men’s offer to Hong Kong for the first time; and Pacific Place, a women’s-focused store that’s also based on the London concept.
Kristina Blahnik said: “To expand our family business in China marks a huge milestone for the brand. This country has always been a huge inspiration for many of Manolo’s designs. This is not only an exciting moment of growth for the house but enables us to bring our beautiful shoes into a country that appreciates heritage, culture and craftsmanship. We are excited to share our story with the wonderful customers of China.”
