The night before the Academy Awards is almost as busy as the day of the ceremony. Just look to the annual Chanel and Charles Finch Pre-Oscar dinner. Back for its 15th year, the incredibly starry event brought together Kerry Washington, Maya Rudolph, Chloë Sevigny, and of course, Barbie mega-star and newly-announced Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit Blanche face Margot Robbie.
Robbie’s longtime makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who has been with the star throughout her rose-colored press tour, was on hand to prep—though this beauty look was decidedly more moody and sexy. “We played with warm tones for this look,” Robbie tells Vogue. “And added a bit of a poppy-brown lip.”
The exact lipstick shade, Dubroff reveals, is 4:00 am from the Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit Blanche collection. “I absolutely love that this formula is rich and velvety,” the makeup artist says, adding that she applied it using her fingers to give a stain-like effect. “It has a lot of color payoff. I love that the lipstick has a long-wear effect without making the lips feel weighty or dry.”
The rest of Robbie’s face was kept pared-back—using Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation, Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow in Candeur et Expérience, and Inimitable Volume-Length-Curl-Separation in Noir Black on the lashes.
When it comes to getting ready for the big event—aka today’s red Oscars carpet—Dubroff shares her secret is using a mattifying primer like La Base Matifiante Perfecting Makeup Primer. “This helps foundation stay put in the T-zone as well as reducing the need for a lot of powder,” she shares.
Robbie also gives a little hint at what we may expect for her beauty look tonight: “In my regular life, I keep my makeup pretty simple,” Robbie says. “In real life, I probably use only five different things. Then [I’ll be] a little more adventurous when it’s a red carpet look. Play around with different colors and products.”
