A man in his 20s has been pulled from the water by lifeguards at Maroubra Beach, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Monday.
He was swimming with two other friends, one female and one male, when the trio got caught in a rip. All three were rescued.
“Lifeguards saw a female swimmer in distress at approximately 1pm today,” Randwick Council said.

“A Council Lifeguard rescued the female and learnt of two additional male swimmers who had been pulled out further to sea by a rip.”
Lifeguards used a defibrillator and CPR until a pulse was detected, and the man started breathing again.
Emergency services arrived shortly after at Marine Pde and Fitzgerald Ave at 1.20pm and located the unconscious man on the shore.
“He left the beach, still unconscious, by ambulance,” Surf Life Saving NSW said.
He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick at 2pm, according to NSW Ambulance.
He is now in a stable condition, NSW Health confirmed.
Maroubra Beach was closed to the public at 7am due to dangerous conditions, before the incident occurred later that afternoon.
The popular surf beach is known as “one of Sydney’s most hazardous beaches,” according to Beachsafe.
“Lifeguards remind all beach goers to not swim at closed beaches and abide by beach signage and lifeguard instructions,” Randwick Council said.
