It was two years ago at San Diego Comic Con when Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced the next two Avengers movies.
Avengers The Kang Dynasty would arrive in 2025 followed by Avengers Secret Wars later that year.
Perhaps a tad ambitious, it wasn’t long before those ambitious release dates were postponed to 2026 and 2027 respectively.
However, a real spanner in the works came when Jonathan Majors was convicted of assault and harassment.
Since then Marvel have dropped their “heartbroken” Kang the Conqueror star, who was set to be the Thanos-level villain in both movies. And rather than recast the role have gone in a totally different direction.
Instead of recasting time-travelling despot Kang, the MCU have cancelled Avengers The Kang Dynasty as the fifth Avengers movie and renamed it Avengers Doomsday with Robert Downey Jr returning to the franchise as Doctor Doom.
The arch-nemesis of the Fantastic Four is also a time traveller so presumably the plot, written by Avengers Endgame’s Stephen McFeely, will have some similarities. Yet the alleged plot of what Avengers The Kang Dynasty was going to be has leaked and fans are devastated to be missing out.

“In this film, the TVA began gathering Anchor Beings from across the Multiverse, believing they are the only ones powerful enough to defeat the Council of Kangs. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were the Anchors for their respective realities, while Tom Holland’s Spider-Man served as the Anchor for Earth-616. The movie was intended to be smaller in scope compared to SECRET WARS, focusing more on Holland’s Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and other Anchors like Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider. The plan was for all of them to ultimately fail, leading to the collapse of the Multiverse and Kang’s creation of Battleworld. This would then set the stage for SECRET WARS, where other MCU characters and additional Multiverse figures would converge on Battleworld.”

Avengers Doomsday hits cinemas in May 2026 and Avengers Secret Wars will follow in May 2027.
