Hailed as one of India’s toughest admission tests in the world, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is one of the biggest exams to conquer. Yet, a young woman called Prerna hailing from the city of Kota, demonstrated a remarkable success story that is nothing short of inspiring.
Living with her family in Kota, Rajasthan, Prerna was preparing for the NEET examination when a tragic life changing event occurred. Sadly, her father passed away when she was in the tenth grade, leaving her family in a state of uncertainty with a notice to vacate their home. Stepping up bravely, Prerna took the reins of her family, looking after her four siblings and grappling with a sizeable debt of 27 lakhs, promising herself to clear it.
However, the final blow to her family was yet to come as the advent of COVID-19 severely impacted the financial circumstances of the siblings, causing them to rely on family members for help. Their sustenance came from her mother’s side of the family’s aid and a modest pension of 500 rupees.
Struggling through financial instability and burdened by a huge loan, the sudden death in her family baffled her and her family, testing her ability to overcome adversity.
Living in Mahavir Nagar, Kota, Prerna made a remarkable achievement by securing the 1033rd position in NEET UG exams of 2023. With her perseverance, she sat in her modest room, studying diligently for long stretches of 10 to 12 hours. Additionally, Prerna was self-reliant when it came to getting to her coaching center, using her bicycle as her only means of commute.
Prerna shared openly with the press about her father’s unwavering belief in her potential. Even though he’s not physically here with her, she’s confident he’d be elated at her accomplishments. The family’s financial journey isn’t smooth, fraught with monetary issues, and the challenge of meeting ongoing mortgage payments. As of today, Prerna’s mom takes great pleasure in her daughter’s achievements. Once she wraps up her MBBS, Prerna aspires to advance further in her studies. She’s also keen to contribute to the medical field through her research work.
