The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Exam is widely regarded as one of India’s toughest exams, challenging candidates aiming to join elite services such as the IAS, IFS, IRS, or IPS. Each year, thousands of hopefuls sit for the exam, but only a select few succeed in passing its three demanding stages: the preliminary exam, the main exam, and the interview. Anudeep Durishetty is one such individual who, with relentless effort and a bit of luck, overcame numerous challenges to secure his place as an IAS officer. Anudeep Durishetty education
Anudeep Durishetty, originally from Metpally in Jagatyal, Telangana, completed his early education at Sri Suryodaya High School and later at Sri Chaitanya Junior College. He went on to earn a B.Tech in Electronics & Instrumentation from BITS Pilani, Rajasthan, graduating in 2011. After his degree, Anudeep joined Google as a software engineer but soon set his sights on the prestigious UPSC exam. He chose not to attend any coaching centers for his preparation, instead relying on self-study and online resources.
Anudeep’s father, D. Manohar, serves as an Assistant Divisional Engineer at the Telangana Northern Power Distribution Company, while his mother, Jyothy, is a homemaker. Their support, along with Anudeep’s commitment and disciplined approach, played a crucial role in his UPSC journey.
UPSC attempt
Anudeep’s passion for public service eventually led him to leave this lucrative job to pursue a career as a civil servant. His first attempt at the UPSC Civil Services Exam (CSE) in 2012 was unsuccessful. Undeterred, Anudeep tried again in 2013, securing a position in the Indian Revenue Service (IRS), where he served as an Assistant Commissioner in Customs and Central Excise.
However, Anudeep’s ultimate goal was to become an IAS officer, and he continued to strive for it despite setbacks. His 2014 and 2015 attempts didn’t yield the desired outcome, but these challenges only fueled his determination. In 2017, on his fifth attempt, Anudeep not only cracked the exam but achieved the top rank (AIR 1) in UPSC CSE without any coaching.
His success mantra
Anudeep Durishetty openly acknowledges that his family played an essential role in his journey to becoming a top-ranking public servant. Their financial and emotional support became his backbone throughout his UPSC preparation. With his family’s encouragement, Anudeep found the mental clarity and focus needed to dive deep into his studies, allowing him to overcome challenges with resilience.
